Oakland Pride Takes Center Stage In The July 23 Episode
Oakland, Calif. – July 23, 2024: The San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport is sponsoring season 19 of the KQED TV show, “Check, Please! Bay Area.” The James Beard and Emmy award-winning restaurant review series “Check, Please! Bay Area” launched in 2005 to welcome local diners to share their favorite Bay Area restaurants. Each week, host Leslie Sbrocco joins three local diners who recommend their top dining destinations. After anonymously trying each other’s restaurant picks, the guests come on the show to champion, celebrate and even critique their experiences with humor, enthusiasm, and conversation.
“It’s on-brand for OAK to highlight the outstanding culinary scene here in Oakland. Our ongoing sponsorship of “Check, Please!” bolsters awareness of our airport in a positive way,” said Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Craig Simon. “We know that those who dine out also travel; and with new Oakland and Berkeley-based restaurants now open at OAK, our long-term sponsorship matches our brand.”
Tay Ho, the Vietnamese restaurant located in downtown Oakland and in the airport’s Terminal 2, is another popular Oakland restaurant that was featured on a previous episode of “Check, Please! Bay Area.”
Serendipity and Oakland pride make the July 23 episode of KQED’s “Check Please! Bay Area” extra special. An Oakland trifecta appears center stage in tonight’s episode featuring Nik Dehejia, CEO of the Oakland Zoo, reviewing Town Fare by Michele McQueen. Town Fare, located in downtown Oakland within the Oakland Museum of California, features creative takes on comforting soul food, like sweet potato waffles and low country shrimp and grits.
“Uplifting Oakland is a team effort, and I’m proud to spotlight the delicious Town Fare and talented chefs like Michele McQueen. Oakland’s rich and diverse food scene makes it a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts,” said Oakland Zoo CEO Nik Dehejia. “A big thanks to San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport for sponsoring the iconic “Check, Please! Bay Area,” which helps bring attention to the vibrant culinary offerings in our community.”
