Oakland International Airport Passenger Traffic Up 7.1% in November

Increase Reflects a Ten-Year Traffic High for the Month

Oakland, CA (December 29, 2017) – San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK) today reports that it served 1,111,124 passengers in November, an increase of 73,746 passengers (7.1%) over the prior year. The increase is based upon 5.3% more flight operations and 7.5% more seats. 

While Oakland’s domestic passenger volume of 1,056,919 million increased by 4.9%, OAK’s international passenger volume increased 83%, reflecting 100% more operations and 99% more seats. Norwegian, OAK’s largest international operator, saw its passenger loads increase by 40% in November.

Port of Oakland Director of Aviation, Bryant L. Francis, said, “November marked 48 consecutive months of passenger traffic increases at OAK. This milestone is a tremendous way to celebrate the holiday season for us, and is indicative of our upward trajectory. We anticipate continued robust growth as we move into 2018.” 

Airport officials noted that traffic on Southwest Airlines – OAK’s largest carrier – increased 5.7% over last year.  Southwest accounted for 73.7% of OAK’s total passenger traffic volume in November.

The Airport saw 12.1 million annual passengers in 2016, and is expected to surpass 13 million in 2017.
