OAK is an easy and convenient gateway between Mexico and Northern California

Oakland, Calif. – June 17, 2025: Oakland Airport (OAK) has launched a new marketing campaign, “La Bahía,” in partnership with Visit Oakland and Visit Berkeley to promote its nonstop Mexico service. The campaign is a multi-channel digital marketing program aimed at building brand awareness and increasing demand from OAK’s largest international market, Mexico. Co-branded, captivating ads will target potential travelers in Guadalajara, Monterey, and Mexico City via programmatic and social media ad buys. This campaign complements OAK’s outbound advertising programs “Mucho Mexico” and “More Ways to Mexico,” both on display in the airport’s terminals.
“The purpose OAK’s new marketing campaign, La Bahía, is to increase awareness of OAK as an easy and convenient gateway to Northern California from Mexico. The recent introduction of new routes from Volaris and Viva make it easier than ever for those traveling between Mexico and the Bay Area,” says Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Craig Simon. “We’re proud to join forces with our longtime partners at Visit Oakland and Visit Berkeley on this exciting activation in support of our new and existing Mexico service.”
Starting in July, OAK will have nonstop service to 7 destinations in Mexico. Volaris offers flights to Leon/Guanajuato, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Morelia, Los Cabos, and Zacatecas. Viva offers flights to Guadalajara and Monterrey. Southwest Airlines also offers seasonal service to Los Cabos.
The partnership with Visit Oakland and Visit Berkeley support OAK’s goal to boost international tourism and attract more visitors from Mexico. Efforts include co-branded content, targeted digital ads, and Spanish-language promotions in key markets. The campaign also helps showcase destinations across the Bay Area from Oakland to Napa to travelers flying into OAK.
OAK was also a sponsor for the recent Reverse Mexico Sales Mission, hosted by Visit California which brought 23 top tour operators from Mexico to Oakland for tourism development meetings and familiarization tours.
